Growing Up Too Fast

Oh, man! These boys are growing up too fast!

Jasper is such a conversationalist and so aware of what is going on. He seriously can remember things from months ago and pulls them out in conversation appropriately. Really, he just continues to amaze us. It's lots of fun!

I got caught off-guard with the lack of a mail delivery day before Grandpa and Grandma Gant's wedding anniversary (Setp 7th), so one afternoon after naptime during the first week of September, I had to hustle the boys together to decorate their card and then get off to the post office to mail it. I got Jasper to pick out stickers for the card, and after pointing out the Lighting McQueen stickers on the sheet smiled as he responded, "Ooh, Grandpa would like that one!" So the card was decorated, and I said, "Ok time to put on your sketchers. ... No, actually we don't have time. You can just go in your bare feet." Jasper said ok and went running for the door to the garage at break-neck speed. Just as we reached the door, he suddenly stopped, turned around and looked at me and said, "I'll just wear my feet, mommy." It was precious!

It was at the same time that Drew had to travel for work for three days. Jasper asked about his daddy every day (multiple times a day) while he was gone. And he repeatedly talked about how he missed his daddy and asked when he'd get home. It was pretty tough to sustain him through this trip, and I'm quite grateful that Drew does not travel too much.

With Jasper, we made the bottom drawers of the TV console off limits. However, with Benjamin it's a whole different ball game. Somethings we let go to maintain the peace, and as you can see, letting Benjamin play with CDs (the favorites of which are already ripped onto our laptop) maintains peaceful play.

Benjamin loves climbing up the doggie steps just as much as Jasper did. He especially loves climbing up to reach something that normally would be off limits otherwise (like some of Jasper's books - as seen below).

Sometimes, just sometimes, Jasper shows Benjamin his books.

plays a little hard to get,

and then has fun with his brother.

Here, you can see that Jasper has moved his book to the couch for some private reading. However, Benjamin has followed him around the ottoman to see the book.

See their hands moving? Benjamin's reaching for the book, and Jasper is trying to keep him at bay.

It was at the beginning of September that Benjamin started looking at books by himself. One of his favorites (which was one of mine) is "I am a Bunny." Now, there are times when the house is quiet. Seriously quiet - and it's because both boys are sitting reading. It's awesome!
