Benjamin's 1st Birthday Party

During the first weekend in October, we were blessed to be visited by family and took advantage of the time to celebrate Benjamin's 1st birthday just three days before his actual birthday. We had a great time with both sets of grandparents, uncle jon and miss kate.

Before we eat cake, we do have to eat dinner. Here Jasper is using his new skid steer loader to load up his mouth with chicken. yum!

Benjamin is loading up on sweet potatoes. This is one item we cannot put down on his place mat fast enough. He pushes our arm out of the way if we're blocking him from getting any and truly picks up the little mounds of mashed sweet potatoes and puts them directly in his mouth in a steady and fast fashion. It's crazy.

Benjamin has not demonstrated major affinity for any one thing yet. He does put all fish toys in his mouth and can't lie still on the changing pad with the fish mobile above him. He's always trying to squirm to grab at them. So, we (I) decided to go with a fishy/under the sea theme.

Benjamin was excited for the cupcakes to arrive!

Contrary to his brother at his 1st birthday parties, Benjamin was not shy with the cupcake. He dove in!

Jasper has become an icing fan, so he enjoyed sitting there just licking away at his sugary treat.

Further progress with dismantling the cupcake:

Savoring each bite:

Figuring out his next move:

A very happy birthday boy:
Here are videos of Benjamin eating his cupcake. The audience commentary is some of the funniest stuff. So glad we had Uncle Jon there to participate!

Immediately after we stopped rolling on this video, Benjamin started looking for more to eat.

looking longingly at his brother's cupcake:

reaching ....

going in for the kill on Jasper's cupcake:
As you might imagine, Jasper was NOT amused to have had his cupcake so rudely swiped. Benjamin was immune and proceeded to eat his brother's cupcake amidst Jasper's loud lament. But as soon as we got Jasper another cupcake, he calmed down too. It was pretty hysterical though.

Our family shot, icing on our face and all!

At this point, the sugar is sustaining him. He's already tired ... but happy!

Benjamin's jeans were taken off in the high chair and tossed directly into the laundry room. They were coated with frosting!

Now, Benjamin's belly is full, but it's time for presents!

He looks so intent here, doesn't he?

but really he wanted to bust loose as soon as he could.

This is Benjamin's first experience opening gifts. Jasper kindly offers to help.

After Jasper took this for a spin, we let Benjamin get a try. He's not steady enough on his feet yet for this. Just wait!

Oh, so sleepy:

But what is this? A soccer ball from Miss Kate and Uncle Jon!

And his very own tractor. It's the perfect size, and once we figured out how to turn off the motion sensing, rolls beautifully and is a great truck for him.

Jasper got a gift from Nana and Papa along with Benjamin. He got a new activity pad for his leapster toy. It's Cars! He loves it. But he also loves the Fire Engine book Benjamin got from Nana and Papa too.

Here is Benjamin with his party guests:
