Jasper's 1st Birthday Party with Family

The Saturday after Thanksgiving, we celebrated Jasper's 1st birthday with both sets of grandparents, his great grandparents, his daddy's aunties and dear family friend Issy. My parents drove over from Michigan (to Akron, Ohio) to join us.

Jasper, not shy for attention, loved having everyone around. Here you can see he's actually a little more interested in the people on the other side of the table than his awesome birthday cake.
And as luck would have it, he was completely uninterested in the cake. He wouldn't even try it. Oh well. There are worse things, I suppose. On another note, he kept the party hat (hand made) on the entire time. He didn't pull on it at all. It was amazing!
Grandma and grandpa Gant had the idea to make a birthday cake to look like a train. It was lots of fun to make, with chocolate licorice for railroad tracks, pretzels for the railroad ties, crushed cookies for the coal car, an ice cream cone for the smoke stack, and much more. We had a fun time creating this cake for Jasper.
Here are great grandma and grandpa Bailey, party hats and all. :)
Here are Jasper's two grandmas, grandma Gant and grandma Jasper, having fun with the party favors.

Jasper showed early interest in opening the gifts, pulling out the tissue paper actually. But he quickly decided it wasn't too much fun when it became work to get the tissue out of the bag. Issy is looking on.
And then he quickly lost interest in opening other gifts when he opened his toy plane.
BUT! ... Then the big plane came along. At first he thought it was for pushing. And then he discovered it made noise, lit up and the propeller moved.
Then it took both grandmas to distract him and get the plane out so he could play with it.
He loves it! He can sit on it or push it. Buttons on the steering wheel play music and cause the propeller to light up and spin. He doesn't understand which buttons do what, so he's frequently making the propellers start and stop by pushing a combination of buttons. But he still loves it.

here's a video of one of his test runs:
