Fun ... by the WATER

This summer is hot. Again. Even in June you really have to find your way to water to find any respite. Thankfully we have been blessed with very generous friends who let us use their lake house in town. It's a short drive for a little getaway.

The last weekend in June we went out there to enjoy the water on a Saturday. We got there just in time for Benjamin to crash for his morning nap, and crash he did. He slept for over 2 hours and pretty much missed out on all the fun. But he had a great nap. So, while he slept, Drew, Jasper and I played ... in the water, frisbee, bubbles. It was great!

Jasper can't wait to get into the water!

If you didn't know, Drew loves to play frisbee. He was an avid ultimate player in college and has the battle wounds (and dental work) to prove it. He's been working a little with Jasper on throwing the frisbee. This Saturday Jasper had a ball throwing the frisbee with his dad and then watching him run to catch (or retrieve) it. Drew determined the following safety rule for playing catch with Jasper: the safest spot is directly in front of Jasper. The frisbee goes any which way but there (often times directly behind him!). I should have been taking a video of him throwing, but the following are rapid-fire photos of the throw and Drew streaking to catch it.

it's quite the wind-up

look at that form!
ah, daddy still has that ultimate blood flowing through him!

Our friends' property is on Lake Austin. It's a lovely park-like spot with a gorgeous view! The water is fairly busy on the weekend, and the wake created from passing boats isn't anything to sneeze at. It's aggressive for us as we stand on the sand shelf along the wall. Jasper can't quite touch, so we had him in a life jacket the whole time. He loved being thrown up in the air. What kid doesn't? But really, at what age can this end? It's one thing if we're up to our necks in the water and buoyancy is totally working in our favor. But when we're only up to our thighs, 35 pounds (without dripping water and drag force) is a lot to toss in the air. I'm typically done after three tosses. Drew can do more. I might need to start lifting weights - or Benjamin - more.

stairs make entry into the water really nice

getting used to the temperature difference. it's nice and cool!

here they go! daddy's going to lift with his legs.

Much of Jasper's frisbee-throwing flare carried over to bubbles.

Thanks, Joel and Stacy! We'll be back. :)
